Activities:

  • As we waited for everyone to arrive, the girls colored a volcano mini-book.
  • We ate snacks related to the book: cheese balls, hot tamales, red hots, and volcano rice krispie treats.
  • We erupted a volcano using baking soda, vinegar, and red food coloring. 
  • We browsed juvenile nonfiction books about volcanoes and shared favorite facts we learned.
  • We played Jeopardy with questions about the book. I found a free Jeopardy powerpoint template online and made up my own questions. My powerpoint is available here. I said the girls could use their books to answer the questions. I didn't do teams but just went around the table and let each girl have a turn.
