Activities:
  • As we waited for everyone to arrive, the girls played with homemade salt dough (4 cups flour, 2 cups salt, 2 cups water, 2 tablespoons cream of tartar; mix and knead thoroughly) and seashells (from the Dollar Tree) and made their own sand castle creations.
  • We ate snacks related to the book: pretzels, goldfish, and edible ocean and sand (Jello Play kits--blue jello with edible stickers and vanilla pudding with edible stickers). A friend also brought starfish-shaped sugar cookies and shell-shaped chocolates.
  • We made sea glass necklaces using the instructions in the back of the book. I got the sea glass from Michaels and the wire and ribbon from JoAnn. I hid the sea glass in a bowl of kinetic sand for the girls to "find" their own piece of sea glass.
  • We learned how to play a simplistic version of Blackjack and played one round. Then I gave each girl a deck of cards to take home so they could play more at home. (Cards from the Dollar Tree.)
