Activities:
- At the beginning while we were waiting for everyone to arrive, the girls draw or wrote about what their power would be if they were endowed.
- We ate snacks we read about in the book: cheese sandwiches, apples, and chocolate cake.
- The girls decorated capes using fabric markers. We used capes that were made from old plain white t-shirts (the same general idea as a tutorial like this).
- We played a game where we had a bowl full of names of characters from the book. Our list included Charlie Bone; Red King; Benjamin Brown; Runner Bean; Maisie; Amy Bone (Charlie's mom); Grandma Bone; Paton Yewbeam; Lucretia, Eustacia, and Venetia Yewbeam (Charlie's aunts); Mr. Onimous; Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius (Flame cats); Manfred Bloor; Blessed (Cook's dog); Billy Raven; Emma Tolly; Gabriel Silk; Fidelio Gunn; Olivia Vertigo; Asa Pike; and Julia Ingledew. In Round 1 of this game, someone comes up and draws a paper and then has to get someone to guess it by talking and describing what's on the paper. You continue doing this until all the papers are used. (In the real version of the game, one person does as many papers as they can in a minute, but I think I did it differently so all the girls got a turn--but I can't remember now since I'm writing this like a year later. But maybe I had each girl do one paper. Then we disregarded the rest of the unused papers and didn't use them for the rest of the game.) In Round 2, you put all the used papers back in the bowl and have to get others to guess only by acting out (no talking). Then in Round 3, you put all the papers back in and get others to guess by saying only one word (sounds hard, but by then you've already seen all the words in two other rounds, so that makes it a little easier).
